Mail Server Support

I provide support, consultancy and troubleshooting services for various Linux- and Unix-based email systems and associated components including qmail / netqmail, Postfix, Exim, Sendmail, SpamAssassin, vpopmail, Courier-IMAP, Dovecot, SquirrelMail, RoundCube etc. - please contact me to discuss your needs.

Dealing with spam

Is your email system overwhelmed by spam? I can diagnose and solve common issues like open relays and misbehaving scripts - and clean up the resulting mess, or add extra protection to your current system to limit spam and viruses.

Speeding up your mail system

If your email system seems slow or is otherwise underperforming, I can work out why and adjust it to optimise its performance, or recommend appropriate upgrades if required. Often relatively minor tweaks are all that's needed.

Tailoring your system more closely to your needs

If you have a particular requirement that is not currently met by your mail system, I may be able to address that by altering the configuration appropriately, or for more unusual needs by modifying the underlying programs (one of the advantages of working with open-source software); please see the programming page for details of the main languages etc I work with.

Reinvigorating unmaintained systems

Puzzled by your email system? Where you've lost a staff member with the knowledge about your system, you may feel unable to fully administer it. In this case, I can audit your current email setup and provide suitable documentation to enable you to manage it. Alternatively I'm happy to administer it if you prefer.

Email system migration

Having overseen many migrations of email systems, I know the pitfalls and can help you avoid them. As well as careful planning, there's also software available to enable smooth migrations, a particular favourite of mine relating to mailbox migration is Perdition.
